Is God an Egomaniac ?

Imagine that overnight you became Ruler of the Earth !

It takes you some time for the enormity of this designation to be assimilated and put to use. Your mentor is with you eery step of the way.

You soon discover that every being on earth, and even the planet, must accede to your every command. You can order death for any creature on earth by simply stating such. You can exterminate an entire species with your words. If you decide to rid the world of mosquitos you have only to so say and it will be accomplished.

You have the power to command a devastating disease to attack and destroy any who oppose you. But no one dares oppose you.

You can sit on your throne in your palace and be known only by your chosen henchmen, invisible except by reputation to the world's population, or be public. you have no fear of anyone or anything. No one but God has the power to harm you or countermand you. He has chosen to allow you to rule, unfettered, doing whatever you wish on earth.

You essentially posses absolute power, delegated to you by the current Prince of this World; the ordained ruler, Satan. He encourages you to wield your awesome powers in many ways.

You can stir up factions turning them against one another ... cause wars ... cause destructive earthquakes, vicious hurricanes and tornados ... devastating forest fires ... tsunamis, and every imaginable natural disaster. The earth and its inhabitants; every human, animal, and plant on the planet's surface and in its seas, is subject to your control.

Etymonline - Word Origin & History
ego

1714, as a term in metaphysics, from L. ego "I" (cognate with O.E. ic, see I). Psychoanalytic sense is 1910; sense of "conceit" is 1891. Ego trip first recorded 1969.

Power corrupts.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

You had the choice to use all this awesome power for good but that is not what your mentor wants. You know he has the power to take away your power and return you to the normal human state ... powerless except in a narrow realm of your life, like what you eat, when you bathe, etc. If you come to believe you possess these powers on your own, you have descended into total egomania.

By succumbing to the lure of such power, you have become, in effect, The anti-Christ.

The only way to keep your power is to serve the desires of Satan, the true ruler of this world in this age. He has given you what Jesus refused when it was offered to Him.

Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he {Satan} said to Him {Jesus}, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me." [Matthew 4:8-9 [NKJV]

I have heard others remark that God often seems like an egomaniac. I have thought it myself in the past. God requires that humans recognize HIM as the supreme creator and absolute ruler of all existence. Throughout the Old Testament or Hebrew Bible, God repeatedly affirms His supremacy. In the Book of Leviticus where detailed instructions for living and worship are spelled out, He repeatedly states, "I am God" or "I am your God".

He demands worship from humans. They who have been saved by grace through faith in Christ want to worship God and do so. Humans will worship and idolize something. For some it is wealth. For others it is celebrity or fame. For primitives and ancients it was animate and inanimate things or deceased ancestors. All over the earth people invented 'gods' to explain the cosmos to themselves.

Whatever it is you idolize, worship, seek after, it is driven by human ego. Admittedly, because God created you and all mankind in His image, God also has what we call an ego, or knowledge and awareness of self. There is a big difference between God's ego and ours. His is self knowledge without the desires which drive and plague humans since Adam's sin.

Though Eve precipitated it she is not held directly responsible. Adam tried to blame her. He actually tried to blame God for giving her to him. It didn't wash. She was cloned from Adam. They were "one flesh". Scripture does not detail what passed between them when he took and ate. Did she explain to him what the serpent told her ?

The one obvious element is this: God assured them that in the day they ate of the forbidden fruit, they would surely die. Picture Adam looking at his mate. She has already eaten and is still alive. Adam must have reasoned that God lied to him and it was safe to eat. And so it seemed until after he ate. Then his spiritual eyes were open and he could discern good from evil. His own physical nakedness suddenly became evil in his sight. He tried to hide from God.

If you have spent time in the company of a human baby, you understand the baby has no knowledge of good and evil or nakedness. Actually, the baby has an undeveloped ego. No real self awareness. At some point it starts to experiment and learns that it can control its hands but it takes much longer before it comprehends that the hands are part of itself.

If you have seen a dog, cat, or bird in front of a mirror, you have seen demonstrated the difference between self awareness and its absence. Few animals give signs of self awareness. None to the level God gave humans.

God is motivated by love for His created beings. The image in which He created us is the spirit He put in us.

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. [Gen 2:7 KJV]
Jesus speaking: "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.?" [John 4:23-24 NIV].

Medical Dictionary egomania e·go·ma·ni·a n.
Extreme appreciation or preoccupation with the self.

We have seen many examples of egomania. Historically, there were the likes of Genghis Kahn, Nero, Ivan the Terrible, Hitler, Stalin, and in our own times Saddam Hussein who erected massive statues of himself. The pharaohs believed they were divine, to which the pyramids attest. The anti-Christ will be an egomaniac.

Egomania is not limited to earthly rulers and politicians. Most notably they appear in celebrety circles of entertainers and profesional athletes along with corporate executives and college professors ... people who have self esteem far exceeding any demonstrable contribution to humankind or other attributes making them worthy of such esteem. We call it unbridled conceit.

In the case of GOD, the term egomaniac fails because He actually is all He believes Himself to be. He is all powerful, all knowing, ever present, all seeing ... all everything, and according to scripture, God is LOVE. It is not Himself He loves; it is us ... our spirit beings created for eternal bliss. His self assessment is based in reality whereas human egomania is based on false premises and usually supported by accolades from sycophants.

No being on earth other man and demons succumbs to egomania. Egomania is rooted in pride, and false pride at that. Pride is what drove Satan to attempt an ascent to God's throne. Along with one third of angels, he apparently believed so much in himself that he could accomplish this. He failed. His pride has been dealt a death blow and now he is vengeful beyond imagination. He knows he will be destroyed along with all evil in the end.

If God plans to destroy Satan and evil, then crete a new cosmos for the saved, what is He waiting for ? Why doesn't He do it already ? We are not given to know this. Even Jesus said He did not know when it will be. I have asked the Lord and the answer is something like, "If I didn't tell my only begotten Son, why would I releny and tell you ? Keep your eye on the sky for His coming and don't worry yourself over 'why' or 'when'. My thoughts are not your thoughts. My ways are not your ways. Let it be."

Meanwhile, Satan proceeds to war against his maker by trying to deprive God of what He most wants ... our spirit beings reborn and alive forever. Were it not for our free will to choose, God could simply cause us all to return to innocence ... erase our knowledge of good and evil ... and extend eternal life to us leaving Satan powerless. Love that is not freely given does not meet the definition of love. God loves without reservation or condition. He is inviting us to be like Him.

If you have read or heard the gospels, you know that Jesus never demonstrated pride. He Himself said He was meek and humble of heart. He is not only the Savior, Messiah, the Christ, but also a loving image of God the Father/Creator. He is the model for humans. We are to become like Him, conformed to the mind of Christ.

How is this possible ?
His disciples raised the same question ...

When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying,
"Who then can be saved"?

But Jesus looked at them and said to them,
"With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
[Matthew 19:25-26 NKJV]

God has made it possible for us to submit our egos to Him by faith in Christ. He has actually made it easy. You'll find complete, easy directions to eternal life at this web link Eternal Life.

After you cross over from spiritual death into eternal life, you will receive the Holy Spirit who will teach you what you need to know. He may lead you to others to mentor you or send them to you (as He did for Saint Paul), or simply motivate you to study the Bible so you can know Him. If you decide to study the Bible and need help, you can get it at this web link How to Understand the Bible.

Thank you for reading this monograph. May God bless you in every way.
