|Dear Jesus - re: John 14:26|
Words of Jesus in red. My words in blue.
But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you. American Standard Version [ASV]
and the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and remind you of all things that I said to you. Young's Literal Translation [YLT]
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. New International Version [NIV]
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. English Standard Version [ESV]
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. King James Version [KJV]
The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. The Message [MSG]
But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. Amplified Bible [AMP]
But the Helper will teach you everything and will cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name. New Century Version (NCV)
Thank you very much for the offer, but we can't SEE this Holy Spirit you are talking about. We don't need His help. We have a book, actually a volume of 66 books, that tell us everything. A lot of it was written after you left earth so you probably don't know about it. We call it the Bible. According to one bunch of men, it was written by another bunch of men who spoke FOR GOD giving us the absolute, inerrant truth about everything we need to know about getting saved.
When we come across something we do not understand, it will be explained by other men who have been especially trained in seminaries to explain it to us. At last count we had more than 300 different kinds of seminaries teaching their version of what we need to know. And that's just in our English language. There are probably thousands of them in total.
Every day of the week, around the clock as the earth turns, there are people in pulpits and small groups explaining what the Words of God mean. So don't worry about us.
Most of them tell us we should not rely on the Holy Spirit; that His gifts were only for the early church, and now we should rely on what they say. We must live by the words in the Book, not what we believe the Holy Spirit tells us.
So you can tell the Father not to bother. Keep the Holy Spirit at home. We don't need His help. We have all the answers. Moreover, some of us are more certain about truth than others because we rely on the King James version of 1611. It's full of thee's and thou's which are not part of our language, but no problem. There are dedicated preachers who tell us exactly what it means.
Your friends on Earth who think they belong to the one true church You established.
PS ... Reader. If you think MY words are riddled with sarcasm, wait until you stand before the Almighty and explain how you did everything by the Book; or at least, by what you were told was in the Book, and hear what HE has to say. His answer is already in the Book.
